Costa Daurada

The trek along the Costa Daurada was beautiful. The water was a stunning bright blue back drop for the green foilage and red rocked path.

It was noon before we got started and the hot sun was beating down on us. The girls were getting a little bored with the flat path until Ireland spotted an old boat that had crashed into the rocks. A little adventure woke them right up.

The girls checking out the abandoned boat.
We continued following the red and white dashes that were painted on rocks or trees to re-assure us we were still on the right path...... until they diminished.  Our dirt path became a gravel road that became a paved forked road and we needed to decide which was the correct way to the town we were hiking to.  The girls weren't too excited to walk up hill an extra quarter mile if they didn't have to.  We ended up in a driveway but the Englishman pointed us in the correct direction. We walked a mile on paved road as Dennis and I started to question the directions that had been given to us. We both imagined hiking into a lovely little village and having lunch.  Yeah, that's a splendid thought, isn't it?  The paved road seemed to stretch on forever as we walked by a dusty, deserted construction lot.  This was not looking good. We were so relieved to spot a hotel.  We walked in feeling quite ragged.  We followed the noise downstairs, across the lobby and out to an area with families splashing in the pool, teens running around, children laughing.  It appeared to be a wonderful family resort.  We all just stood there...... watching and.....wishing.  We had planned for lunch but all that seemed to be available was an elaborate buffet or overpriced potato chips from the bar.  The only cure for our madness was to order up Coca-Colas.  The girls were delighted.

I poured the Coke out of mine and put water in it for Raleigh so
he could feel like a big kid.
The waves smashing up against the rocks.
We collapsed in the chairs amongst the holiday-makers and made our own resort plans.  We would go to the grocery store and buy some fun "resort" snacks and I would serve them to the girls  on the patio as they braved the cool water of our pool back home.  The last gulps of Coke burned down our throats as we departed la-la land, never looking back.  We decided we would get the first mile on pavement over as quickly as possible.  We surged towards the coast singing and laughing.  So glad to be heading home the girls ran most of the way.

  1. Have been thinking about you all fall, but didn't get to read your blog until on our own trip (to daughter's in Canada). Thanks for sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly of an extended family "ex-po-tition." Isaiah was in the middle of the pack at state XC and is to be AudreyII in Little Shop of Horrors this weekend. May safety and blessings continue to be your travel companions!

  2. Great adventures. I just finished reading our Book Club book, Safely Home by Randy Alcorn. Your Coca-Cola experience (it's the REAL THING) reminds me of Jesus' words in John 4:13-14. Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
