Sleepless in Germany

The nine hour flight from Atlanta to Munich, Germany was just as you might expect it would be with a toddler.  We survived.

We were picked up by a gentleman from Audi and taken to the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt, Germany.  This manufacturing plant was massive.  We took a two hour tour of the assembly line and we didn’t see but a speck of dirt or grease anywhere. Our car wasn’t ready for the hand over until 2 p.m. so we spent the day there.  We filled up on some delicious food and the girls tried to keep themselves awake by racing the simulator cars and drinking coffee.

After we received the car we found our way to the hotel that they booked for us. We were met with many questions upon entering our room.

How do we turn on the lights? How do we flush the toilet? How do we get a toddler out of hotel room when the door is chain locked from the inside???

To activate the lights you must place the hotel card in a designated slot for the light buttons to work.

You must press a large white box on top of the toilet that looks like a Kleenex dispenser to flush.

Mother Macgyver handled the situation with a flat head screwdriver and a credit card.  Unfortunately Daddy could see through the crack in the door that Raleigh was chewing on the handle of the toilet brush to console himself....yikes.
We went on a search for a bite to eat and ended up driving down streets where cars weren't allowed and getting lost for a good hour or so.  Dennis had forgotten his international drivers license at the hotel so we were anxious to get back. We finally settled for a quick shop and got a couple of pretzels and a croissant. My first transaction in German went well since I just had to point and smile.
Our weary bodies landed in bed.  I thought of the map and how far away Germany is from Nebraska but was too tired to be lonesome for home.

  1. This post begs the question: How does one's toddler end up in a chain-locked hotel room? Only the first of many adventures to be had in Europe, I am sure.

  2. We had two adjoining rooms. We had the doors leading to the halls chain locked so Raleigh wouldn't get out. We were all hanging out in one room until Raleigh walked into the other room and shut the connecting door which doesn't have a door handle on the inside.
